Georgian Downs has cancelled its Tuesday harness racing card due to a driving rainstorm that swept through the area and created unsafe track conditions.
The Innisfil, Ont. oval had three Ontario Sires Stakes Gold events – each worth more than $68,000 – scheduled for the card.
Driver Nick Boyd, who was listed on morning line favourite Chuck The Cheese in the first race, called the cancellation “easily avoidable” on Twitter and petitioned Ontario Racing to create a committee to oversee track conditions.
A great experiment with a signature track is to never put material on it for years and expect it to hold up.@ONTRacing we need a track standards committee ASAP!! This cancellation should have easily been avoided pic.twitter.com/ztJcR3Udbc
