Rotten Ronnie became the fastest harness racing horse ever at Northside Downs on Saturday as the three-year-old broke the all-age track record while winning an Altantic Sires Stakes A contest.
Redmond Doucet set the Malicious (PE) colt up to make history by scrambling him to the front early. Rotten Ronnie cut out a :28 first quarter mile and a :56.2 half before a challenge came from 1/9 favourite Woodmere Stealdeal (Marc Campbell) on the backstretch. The latter stayed with the leader through the three-quarter mile station in 1:25 and maintained the pressure before going wide on the final turn.
Rotten Ronnie put that foe away and sped home to a 1:53.3 record-setting triumph. Woodmere Stealdeal held onto place over Woodmere Alvin (Michael McGuigan).
