EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Four was the magic number for harness racing driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Jim King Jr., who teamed up with Lyons Sentinel to win the $191,050 Lady Liberty on Saturday (Aug. 7) at The Meadowlands.
Lyons Sentinel, the current queen of the older pacing mares, prevailed by one length over Rocknificent in 1:48.1. It was the fourth win of the season for the 4-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous, and the fourth straight Lady Liberty win for Tetrick and King, who captured the previous three coming with Shartin N, one of the sport’s great pacing mares.
Lyons Sentinel (Captaintreacherous) is now carving her own legacy. This was her third stakes win of the campaign, following the Artiscape at the Big M and her record-equaling victory in the Clara Barton at Plainridge Park.
LYONS SENTINEL REPLAY
“To follow that up behind the last few races she’s had, it’s just been outstanding,” King said.
Lyons Sentinel improved her career record to 16 for 38 as she eclipsed $1.5 million in earnings for Threelyonsracing of Brantford, Ontario.
She earned this one the hard way with a first-over grind that wore down the pacesetting Gia’s Surreal and let her sprint clear by two lengths at the top of the stretch. Rocknificent, the pocket sitter, narrowed the gap late to get second. Peaky Sneaky followed the winner’s cover to finish third.
Tetrick scored his sixth Lady Liberty win as Lyons Sentinel paid $2.80 to win.
