There was no overshadowing Captain Corey’s impressive harness racing victory in the $1 million Hambletonian Trot last Saturday at The Meadowlands, but coming in a close second could be that the majority of the big pacing events were all won by progeny of Captaintreacherous.
Four of the biggest pacing events, the $276,000 Cane Pace with Rockyroad Hanover, the $191,000 Lady Liberty, Lyons Sentinel and both $157,000 divisions of the Sam McKee, Catch The Fire and Allway Hanover, are all sired by Captaintreacherous.
Purchased by Myron Bell as a yearling for $260,000 and later syndicated for $12 million, Captaintreacherous (Somebeachsomewhere – Worldly Treasure – Artsplace) raced three seasons and ended his career on the racetrack with a record of 1:47.1 with earnings of $3,148,657.
Over those three seasons, Captaintreacherous was voted the 2013 Dan Patch Pacer of the Year; Dan Patch, O’Brien 2-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 2012; Dan Patch Pacer of the Year; Dan Patch 3-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 2013.

On Hambletonian Day it was the $276,000 Cane Pace where the first son of Captaintreacherous, Rockyroad Hanover, grabbed the limelight.
Rockyroad Hanover is from the American Ideal mare Romantic Moment and is owned by Myron and Stephanie Bell’s Riverview Racing, Brad Grant, Ken Jacobs, and Plouffe, Head & VJ Stables.
He came first-over against Perfect Sting in the Cane Pace for driver Dexter Dunn and was able to grind it out to a 1:48.1 triumph. It was a lifetime mark for Rockyroad Hanover and his fourth win in eleven starts this year. He is trained by Tony Alagna.

In the stretch, Catch The Fire was able to collar Nicholas Beach and go on for the win in 1:47.2, a lifetime mark.

This past winter, Catch The Fire began his stud career at Sugar Valley Farm in Ohio. His book was originally limited to 65 mares because of the plan to continue racing, but later increased to 85. He competed in Ohio exclusively to start the season while performing his double duties.
