Well deserved win for one of the toilers

Wins tend to be well spaced for The Peaky Blinder. Today’s victory at the Gore Harness Racing Club meeting at Wyndham was well deserved for one of the toilers of the trade.

Driver Blair Orange took the horse to the lead early before handing up to Sage Trouble. He pushed off the inside when Sage Trouble ran out of puff just before the top of the straight, which forced the favourite Jannah Jaccka three wide. Once in front The Peaky Blinder never relinquished, winning by three quarters of a length with another four and a quarter lengths back to roughie Make My Day.

Trainer Lyndon Bond got The Peaky Binder through a good friend,  chiropractor Leon Crawford. The son of Dream Vacation began his career with Jamie Gameson.

“Jamie and Natalie Gameson and their group of owners thought it was too tough to race him in Canterbury. He’s been here for a couple of seasons. He’s just an honest toiler.”

Bond said it hasn’t been all plain sailing with The Peaky Binder.

“He’s a funny old horse. He attacked the old man (Jimmy Bond). He blew him over at home because he thought Dad was vulnerable, and went to grab him. There’s been a few others that he’s come at with his mouth wide open but other than that he’s a lovely old horse to do anything with.”

The Peaky Binder is out of the Gizz Whiz II mare Half A Sixpence, the winner of four races. She also left Save A Sixpence, the winner of seventeen races in Australia.

Today’s  win is The Peaky Binder’s third career win and the second for Bond. The other win came for Gameson at Manawatu in March 2019.

The victory also continues the Bond stables good form. Last season Lyndon recorded a personal best of eleven wins.

“I was rapt with last year. When you get a good horse like Tweedledee it seems to lift the whole team.”

Meanwhile Crusher Collins will be back racing at Winton next week after missing a place at her last start.

“She went to Addington and pulled up with a bit of a bug. She wasn’t that well but we didn’t know until she raced. She’s been treated, and is working really well,” Bond said.
