Crazycat captured his second Open Trot at Monticello Raceway in three weeks in a hard-fought harness racing win over Might Surf, the prior week’s top class winner, on Wednesday.
Crazycat initially tucked in fourth for Brandon Parker while Mighty Surf (Michael Merton) pushed forward and made the front at the end of a :29 first quarter mile. The former began his charge after the half in :58.4 and caught the leader flat-footed at three-quarters in 1:28.2, soaring by him.
Crazycat obtained a clear lead as they entered the far turn, but Mighty Surf responded immediately with a move to the outside and gained on the leader. Mighty Surf chipped away throughout the stretch, but Crazycat resisted enough to reach the finish in front for the 1:57.3 victory.
Mighty Surf finished second by a neck. Chip Chip Conway (Jim Taggart Jr.) followed those two in third.
