LEXINGTON, KY — The Red Mile is set to host the third round of the Kentucky Championship Series for harness racing pacing 2-year-olds on its Tuesday (Aug. 23) card.
Second-round winner Dont Fence Me (Captaintreacherous) In will face first-round winner Sloopy (Downbytheseaside) in the single $40,000 dash for the 2-year-old pacing fillies, which opens the card.
Dont Fence Me In popped pocket in the second preliminary to post a 1:52.4 win after failing as the favorite in round one to Sloopy, who starts as the 3-2 morning line choice. Dexter Dunn drives Dont Fence Me In for trainer Tony Alagna from post 3 while Yannick Gingras steers Sloopy for conditioner Ron Burke from post 4 in the five-horse event.
In the colt and gelding division, Pebble Beach will try to continue his potential series’ sweep when he starts from post 3 in the afternoon’s seventh race with Todd McCarthy in the bike.
The Noel Daley pupil has posted back-to-back sizzlers in the Kentucky Championship Series – winning round one with a 1:50.1 mile and returning over a “good” track with a 1:51.4 effort. The 6-5 morning-line favorite has five rivals to contend with this week, with last week’s runner-up River Ness – in rein to David Miller from post 5 for Ron Burke – among them.
Tuesday’s card also features three $20,000 divisions of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series, two for the fillies and one for the colts and geldings. First-race post time is 1 p.m. (EDT).
