He has driven a double three times this month but Lleyton Green’s two winners at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight are just that extra bit special for the Sydney harness racing driver.
Green first saluted with Major Obahma (Art Major) tonight, which gave the 17-year-old his first metropolitan winner.
Just four races later, Green was in the winners’ circle again with Zanadu (Bettors Delight) giving him his first metropolitan double.
“It was an awesome experience to get a double at a metropolitan meeting,” said Green.
“I was pretty confident with both horses as they had been in good form leading into those races.”
Born in Queensland, Green made the move to New South Wales in late 2018 and began his driving career in February 2020.
“I’ve been at the McDowells for three years and showed interest in driving by watching my brother (Hayden Green) train and drive from a young age,” said Green.
“I thought I would chase my dream and become a driver too.”
Green’s first winner was on No Risk No Return at Penrith on February 20, 2020.
He works for trainers Dean and Kerry McDowell who provided Green with his winners tonight.
Green has been in strong form of late and boasts a record of 48 wins and 112 placings.
