Club News : Methven

3 September 2021
in New Zealand

The Methven Trotting Club’s first meeting of the new season will take place on September 12.

We are not yet certain of the venue. If we are at Alert Level 3 then we must race at Addington. If we drop to Level 2 then we are likely to race at Methven. As soon as the club has some certainty the public will be informed.

The club recently hosted their end of seasons awards results were :

Horseshoe Brands Trainer of the year- Robert Dunn

Morrison Saddlery Driver of the year- Blair Orange

John and Robyn Nicol Junior Driver – Sarah O’Reilly

Mike and Di Heenan and Ricky and Judy May Young Achiever Award – Gemma Thornley.

The club appointed its officers for the new season :

President – Carl Markham

Vice Presidents – Lawrence Hanrahan and Mike Heenan.

Stake levels for feature races were also announced for the new season:

Lazarus At Alabar Methven Cup $30,000

What The Hill Mares Trot $20,000

Methven Four Square and Supermarket Pacers Green Mile $25,000

FastTrack Insurance Trotters Green Mile $25,000

Woodlands Stud Little Green Jug $15,000.

Trainers and owners will notice significant increases in our feature races. The club and HRNZ have worked hard to achieve these and we hope to maintain these stakes in the future.

Many thanks to retiring President Mark Lemon who steered the club through a very challenging period with composure, patience, humour and common sense for which we are all grateful. So hopefully we will see you at Methven on September 12 where remember the sun always shines.

Mike Heenan – Methven Trotting Club
