A COVID scare has forced the postponement of Saturday night’s Menangle harness racing meeting.
NSW’s biggest harness meeting of the week was headlined by the Group 3 Kevin Newman free-for-all.
“It’s a precautionary measure due to a participant testing positive to Covid-19,” Harness Racing NSW CEO John Dumesny said.
The meeting has been rescheduled to Monday night.
The Menangle issue follows a major scare in Victoria early last month which saw harness racing shutdown for two days.
It stemmed from a participant who attended a Melton harness racing meeting on August 2, subsequently testing positive.
Covid continues to impact Victorian harness racing with Melbourne’s metropolitan curfew forcing Melton’s major meetings to be run at regional tracks, like Geelong tonight.
Melton hasn’t hosted a Saturday fixture since August 7 and isn’t scheduled to do so again until October 2, at the earliest.
