While not eligible for the $253,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship harness racing final, Hambletonian winner Captain Corey did take advantage of racing in the $50,000 consolation race Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs, winning with ease in 1:51.4.
Trained and driven to victory by Ake Svanstedt, Captain Corey got away in fourth place as stablemate, Fly Light (Dexter Dunn) shot to the early lead with 75-1 long shot Ceffyl DWR (Jacqueline Ingrassia) grabbed the two-hole spot.
Svanstedt sent Captain Corey first-up after the opening quarter mile in :27.4. Captain Corey easily went to the lead and held the field at bay as he went to the half mile in :56 and the three-quarters in 1:24.2.
At that point, Svanstedt let Captain Corey have his head and they trotted away to a five-length romp with Fly Light second and Ceffyl DWR third.
