Warrawee Roo rose to the $34,000 Preferred, the top harness racing level at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and emerged victorious for his third win in a row on Monday.

The Majestic Son stallion motored away from his post six but was outpaced by Grandma Heidi (Doug McNair) and Dream Nation (Scott Young) and dropped into the three-hole. Grandma Heidi led to the quarter mile marker in :28, but Warrawee Roo cut the next panel time as he grinded to the front in a :56 half for driver James MacDonald.

Warrawee Roo cleared as the field of nine entered the far turn but immediately faced a first-over attack from odds-on favourite Oney Hall (Trevor Henry). The latter crept up to the leader’s bridle as they trotted to three-quarters in 1:24, but Warrawee Roo kicked away again at headstretch and cruised through the final eighth of a mile to victory in 1:52.4.

Oney Hall finished two and a half lengths back in second. Combs Hanover (Paul Macdonnell) took show. The winner paid $9.30.

WARRAWEE ROO REPLAY

Warrawee Roo has stepped up in class in two consecutive outings, starting in the non-winners of $18,000 last five level, going to non-winners of $22,500 last five and finally to the Preferred. In July, the eight-year-old was racing in the non-winners of $5,000 last five condition. Luc Blais trains the former Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final winner for Determination. The horse is now 14-for-62 lifetime and has earned $839,660.

Racing returns to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday, Sep. 7 at 7:00 p.m. EDT
