Monticello, N.Y. – The out-of-town invader Mickeymaksomespeed won his Monticello Raceway debut in the Open Pace on Wednesday, September 8 for trainer/driver Frederick Bourgault.
As the field of seven of the best pacers on the grounds left the gate, PH Kenny (Cory Stratton), last week’s Open winner, left strongly from Post 7 to get away third. Before the first stanza, Casie’s Believer, who got away second, pulled the pocket to take the lead, where he took the pack through fractions of 27.4 and 58.0.
PH Kenny came first over before the half. Casie’s Believer continued to cut the mile, taking the pack to the Ā¾ in 1:26.3. At this point, Mickeymaksomespeed was second along the rail, with driver Frederick Bourgault struggling to keep his mount in control.
Once cleared at the top of the stretch, he was full of pace and drew off to win by two lengths in 1:55.4. A fast-closing Camwood (Michael Merton) was second, followed by Burning Midnight (Bruce Aldrich Jr.) Pacesetter Casie’s Believer finished fourth.
It was the sixth win of the season for the four-year-old son of Mickey Hanover, who is owned by Michel Allard of Saint-Espirit, QC, CA. It was also his first start ever in the USA, shipping in from Quebec.
