Yonkers Raceway leading driver Jordan Stratton padded his cushion with five victories on the track’s 12-race Wednesday card of harness racing.
The reinsman earned his first win of the evening in the fourth race, guiding eight-year-old Big Jim mare Tempus Seelster first-over to victory in 1:53.3. He then kicked off a three-race win streak with a similar trip aboard Pacing Major N, an eight-year-old Art Major stallion, in the seventh. The pair got up by a nose in a tight stretch drive after losing their last start together by a head.
Stratton won his next two races with first-over moves in the third quarter, piloting eight-year-old Sir Luck mare Acefourtyfour Alex and seven-year-old Explosive Matter gelding Lucky Matter to victory in the eight and ninth, respectively.
Stratton completed his five-win evening with a wire-to-wire steer aboard Warrawee Shipshape, a seven-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass, in the 11th.
He now leads by 39 wins in the drivers’ standings. George Brennan is second with 190.
Yonkers Raceway will go dark on Thursday. Racing resumes on Friday, Sep. 10 at 7:15 p.m. for the New York Night of Champions. The card features eight New York Sire Stakes finals worth a total of $1.6 million.
