CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Mr Finlay Ridge (Armbro Barrister) commanded the lead every call to win in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Sprinting to the lead in a $8,950 three-year-old trot division of Canada’s Oldest Stakes race that held its first event in 1934, Mr Finlay Ridge was a 1:58.2 winner in line to trainer-driver Clare MacDonald. MacDonald co-owns the trotter with fellow Nova Scotia residents Ian Tate and Arnold Rankin.

The three-year-old filly trot division saw a mild upset with Striking Pride (Striking Lindsey) reaching up in the stretch for a 2:04.2 win in line to Gilles Barrieau for trainer and co-owner Paul Morrison and co-owners Jillian Furness and John Breau.

Berts Legacy (Tad The Stud) delivered as the favourite in her $6,750 P.E.I Colt Stakes two-year-old filly trot division for driver Paul Lanigan, trainer William Lanigan and owner Robert Honkoop stopping the clock in 2:03.1.

The $6,750 two-year-old trot colt splits were won by Mr Miller (Driven by Corey MacPherson) in 2:02.2 and Up Helly AA (Ken MacDonald) in 2:03.1.
