CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Upsets were the name of the game in P.E.I. Colt Stakes afternoon action on the first half of a Saturday doubleheader at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The afternoon card featured two-year-old pacing action with driver Brodie MacPhee on the other end of an upset in a $13,000 two-year-old pacing filly Gold division as Mermaid Magic set a new track record for her age group at 6-1 odds in 1:55.4. Her victory also snapped the five-race win streak of heavily favored JJ Scarlett (Danny Gillis).

Tom Weatherbie trains the winning daughter of Big Jim for owners Ian Smith and David Kennedy.

Stash It Away powering up in a $12,000 pacing colt Gold division to hand Fern Hill General (Driven by Brodie MacPhee) the first defeat of his young career in 1:54.4.

Corey MacPherson was at the lines of the winning son of Pang Shui for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.

JJ Xavier (MacPhee) held on as the favourite in the other $12,000 Gold colt division with a 1:57.2 victory from the Earl Smith stable for owner David Lund of Moncton, N.B.

The $5,900 colt grassroots divisions were won by Soul Assassin (David Dowling) in 1:59, Saulsbrook Raptor (Barrieau) in 1:57.2 and Woodmere Denver (Jason Hughes) in 1:57.2.

Girl In A Tavern won the other Gold 2yo filly pace split in 1:57.2 for trainer-driver Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge.

Outrageous Style (Barrieau) prevailed in her $6,550 filly grassroots division in 1:59.3, along with Kcs Starlite (Ken Murphy) in 2:00.4 in the other division.

Better Than Cash delivered as the longest shot on the board in the $2,600 featured pace in 1:54.2 to make Ambyr Campbell the fastest female driver in the history of Island harness racing.
