The ownership of promising filly Madrid has changed in the middle of her Breeders Challenge preparation.
Formerly raced by breeders Frank and Suzanne OāSullivan, the daughter of Bling It On was sold on Wednesday.
Madrid was nominated for her Breeders Challenge heat at Penrith on Thursday and her new owner Travis OāGrady made the decision to leave the two-year-old in the care of trainer Jarrod Alchin.
And that proved to be a winning move as Madrid won her qualifier for her new owner and extended her record to three wins in four starts in the process.
āI was a bit worried when Frank called to tell me he had sold her, I thought I was going to lose her,ā said Alchin.
āIām grateful that her new owner wants me to keep training her, especially considering Iāve never trained a horse for Travis before.
āI donāt know how much he sold her for but the offer was too good to refuse.ā
Alleged to be a six-figure sum, Madrid became the first Group winner by Bling It On when winning the Australian Pacing Gold Sovereign Final at Menangle on August 17.
Madrid won at Menangle last Tuesday and rated a career best 1:53.5 and became the equal-fastest two-year-old filly in Australia this season. She shares that title with Silk Cloud.
She will now head to the $20,000 Breeders Challenge Semi Final at Menangle on October 16.
This is her Breeders Challenge heat victory at Penrith tonight (Thursday night):
