Brilliant Warrawee Needy youngster Flare Up stamped herself as a genuine contender for next month’s $125,000 NSW Breeders Challenge Final with a decisive win in her heat at Tamworth on Thursday (September 23).
The filly led from the outset and won easing down by 12 metres in 1:59.3.
Flare Up, who was bred and raised by Yirribee Pacing Stud, who stand her sire, has won four of her five starts, the last three on end.
The three-year-olds Uncle Shank and Rusty El, both members of Warrawee Needy’s first crop, were big winners at Albion Park and Albury respectively.
Uncle Shank, who rated 1:56.1 over 1660 metres, posted his seventh win from only 10 outings, while the filly Rusty El scored for the fourth time.
Warrawee Needy (1:46.8), the former world mile record holder, was represented by four winners in North America this week including Just Plain Needy (1:54.8), Needless To Say (1:54.8) and Ajknight (1:56.2).
Tintin In America, a studmate of Warrawee Needy, sired the convincing Penrith winner American Flyer NZ (1:57.1) and another former En Zedder, Kiwi Tintin, who won in 1:52.4 at Plainridge Park, Massachusetts.
Warrawee Needy and Tintin In America are part of the Yirribee Pacing Stud sire roster for 2021/22 which also includes the Inter Dominion champions Lennytheshark and Tiger Tara, the North American Cup hero Fear The Dragon, NSW Sire of the Year Million Dollar Cam and emerging, young sire Renaissance Man.
