CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Better Be In Love turned a perfect pocket ride into a trip to the historic winner’s circle in the Thursday evening harness racing feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Brendan Mullen trained Better Be In Love left alertly from post 6 and was released to the lead by Michele Z Tam (Driven by Jason Hughes) at the comfortable 29.1 opening quarter in the $2,600 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace. Michele Z Tam then retook the front to leave Better Be In Love and driver Marc Campbell in the two-hole through splits of 58.4 and 1:28.4 before the pocket sitter reached up in the stretch to win by a length in 1:57.4.
Ill Tell Me Ma (David Dowling) gobbled up ground in the final quarter to finish second while Ms Moyse (Adam Merner) circled from last to finish third. Mullen co-owns the winning daughter of Bettor’s Delight with Cole MacLaren and Erin McCardle.
The Nun won the $2,050 top trot with a 2:01.2 victory for driver Brodie MacPhee, trainer Earl Smith and owner Redland Farms of Bible Hill, N.S.
The Jennifer Doyle stable celebrated a pair of victories as Southwind Ion (Hughes) was a 1:57.1 winner for the Earnscliffe trainer in race 9 while Elm Grove Mistress (Merner) won race 10 in 1:57.1.
