Recently founded Kountry Lane Standardbreds enter the Lexington Select Yearling Sale starting on the 5th of October, full of long term confidence with five outstanding harness racing yearlings from their first crop of mares originally purchased at the White Birch dispersal sale in 2019.
The five harness racing yearlings are all consigned and raised by the outstanding team of Doug and Beth Yontz of Anvil And Lace Farm in central Kentucky.
Kountry Lane Standardbreds stated ambition is to raise and sell top quality yearlings for unreserved sale at all times.
In the first article on Kountry Lane Standardbred yearlings we presented Hip # 53 Knights Tale and in our second article we covered Hip # 151 Shining Rocks and Hip # 176 Be The Captain. In our third article we presented the fourth yearling the impeccably bred Hip # 624 Kountry Jon who is a outstanding colt by the great Cantab Hall son Father Patrick 1:50.2f ($2,600,571) out of the race winning Varenne 1:51.1 ($5,651,061) mare Caddie In Love S.
Today we present Hip # 657 Fair Kountry a colt, by the young promising Muscle Hill stallion Southwind Frank 1:52.1 ($2,115,999).
Southwind Frank raced only as a two and three-year-old and from 26 starts finished out of the top three twice. As a two-year-old he won 11 of his 12 starts and $941,811 in stake money and was the richest and fastest freshman trotter of his year. Southwind Frank established a new world record for two-year-old trotters on a mile track and a fresh stakes record of 1:52.1 winning the $264,000 International Stallion Stakes at The Red Mile by open lengths. He also set a stakes record of 1:53.4 capturing the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final at The Meadowlands and capped his first campaign with a two lengths win in the $778,440 final of the Breeders Crown in 1:54.2 over a rain-soaked Woodbine oval.

Among his other successes at two were the $349,850 Peter Haughton Memorial in 1:53.8 at The Meadowlands, the $373,000 William Wellwood Memorial in 1:55.4 at Mohawk, the $117,406 Champlain Stakes in 1:54.1 at Mohawk and a division of the Reynolds Stakes in 1:54.2 at Tioga Downs.
Returning as a three-year-old Southwind Frank won a further six races including three of the gems on the US trotting calendar – the $500,000 Colonial Trot in 1:52.4, the $500,000 Earl Beal Jnr Memorial (in 1:52.4) and the $153,250 Stanley Dancer Memorial.

Champion trainer Ron Burke, who prepared the colt throughout his career, said: “I’ve trained a lot of horses, but none have had Frank’s package of speed, power and smarts. I truly believe he is one of the all-time greats.”
With only two and three-year-olds on the racetrack Southwind Frank‘s progeny are already showing that he is a force to be reckoned with and potentially a top commercial stallion in the making. His three-year-old top earner to date is the very good stakes winning filly Flawless Country T2,1:53 ($567,819) and his next top earner is the colt Delayed Hanover T3,1:51.3 ($361,687). Average earnings per starter, as at today’s date, from his oldest three-year-old crop is $78,169 to date, and that puts him right up there with his own sire Muscle Hill.
Hip # 657 Fair Kountry is the first foal out of the Chapter Seven race winning mare Fair Chase who has a best time of 1:53.4. Fair Chase is from the Muscles Yankee race winning and good producing mare Southwind Sauna who in turn is a full sister to Federal Flex ($735,534) the O’Brien 2-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year in 2008. Their super good dam Scully FBI won $522,369 and is by S J’s Photo.

Once again Kountry Lane Standardbreds stated ambition is to raise and sell top quality yearlings for unreserved sale at all times.
