Hightstown, NJ — Kentucky Futurity winner Jujubee and world-record-setting female trotter Atlanta were newcomers to this week’s Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll Top 10.
Jujubee won the Kentucky Futurity in 1:49.3 after being supplemented to the race for $75,000. He gained 112 points from his total of 33 last week and vaulted from 13th to No. 5 in this week’s rankings.
Six-year-old Atlanta captured the Allerage Mare Trot in 1:49, equaling Manchego’s mark for history’s fastest mile by a female trotter and lowering the record for a female trotter older than the age of 4. Atlanta added 95 points to her total of 17 last week and went from 16th to seventh in the poll.
At the top of the rankings, Lyons Sentinel and Venerable did not race and remained first and second, respectively. Glen Garnsey Memorial winner Test Of Faith stayed third and Allywag Hanover, who won the Allerage Open Pace in 1:46.4 to equal the pacing world record for a gelding of any age, moved up a spot to fourth.
International Stallion Stakes division winner Niki Hill moved from eighth to sixth in the poll while the final three Top 10 spots went to Captain Corey, who is sidelined for the remainder of the season; Hot Mess Express, who won a leg of the Indiana Sire Stakes; and recently retired Manchego.
Charlie May and King Of The North dropped out of the Top 10.
The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.
The final poll will be Nov. 30 following the completion of the Grand Circuit season.
