Emotional success as Leigh remembers Tiffany

It might not have been the biggest race he’s won, but victory in Wednesday’s TAB Long May We Play 2YO Pace at Echuca certainly meant a lot to top harness racing reinsman Leigh Sutton.

Sutton blew a kiss and raised his whip to the heavens crossing the line aboard Isabel Walsh-trained colt Repelling, who broke his maiden first-up from a spell.

The success was a special moment for Sutton on what was the 10-year anniversary of the passing of former partner and mother to his daughter, Tiffany Murray.

Murray, who drove six winners in her short career in the sulky, was a much-loved member of the local community and the Echuca Harness Racing Club has run a memorial race in her honour since 2012.

“She is buried in Moama so I went and visited her before the race,” Sutton said.

“We were together for four and a half years and she’s the mother of my beautiful daughter, Milla.

“It was just a special day and the fact it’s her home town and they raced on this day, it excited me… she was loved by everybody in trotting.”

Sutton made it a winning double for Walsh two races later, taking out the Super Clean Linen Service Pace with Do Not Surrender.
