SUMMERSIDE, PE – Harness racing drivers Marc Campbell, Corey MacPherson and Jason Hughes proved why they are in a tight race for leading driver title at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as the talented reinsmen won 11 of 13 races Monday evening at the track.
Campbell and MacPherson both had driving grand slams on the night while Hughes snagged three wins on the program. The driving standings now sit with Campbell and Hughes tied in first place with 48 wins while MacPherson is in close pursuit with 47 victories in Summerside in 2021 with the final card of the season set for next Monday (Nov. 1) at 6:30 P.M.
Campbell started off the action in race 1 winning with Sharks Play for trainer James Barlow in 2:00 to launch the new Go The Distance series presented by the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association.
Race 2 was claimed by MacPherson and Magical Cowgirl in 1:59.2 for trainer Pat Murphy. Race 5 saw Campbell return to the winner’s circle to take control of the driving standings winning with Zack The Men (2:01) for trainer Michael MacDonald, then followed it up in race 6 with La Vie En Rose (1:59) from the Glenn MacKay Jr., barn.
Gascoigne Rocks took MacPherson back to the winner’s circle in race 7 in 2:00.1 for trainer Wade Sorrie. Hughes was two wins downs heading into race 8 of the night but started to pick up momentum winning that dash with Southwind Bronn (1:57.1) for trainer Jennifer Doyle.
Veteran pacer Adventure Luck showed he still had lots of step in race 9 as MacPherson steered the 14-year-old to a 1:56.2 victory for trainer Reece Williams’ first career training win. Hughes then continued his climb back to the top in the next two dashes winning with Ultimatelyhandsome (1:57.1) in race 10 for trainer Dawn Hubbard then claimed race 11 with Elm Grove Mistress (1:57.3) for trainer Doyle to retake the lead.
The featured event in race 12 was the final part of MacPherson’s four-bagger as Screen Test led at every call to win in 1:54 for trainer Ron Gass and owner Kickin Horse Stable of York and William Andrew of Alberta.
The final dash of the night put Campbell back into a tie for top spot in the standings as Three Truths continued his undefeated streak for trainer Kyle Wilkie winning in 1:57.1. For race replays and more go to Redshores.ca.
