CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The final Island harness racing stake of 2021 will go postward on Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The capital oval has 14-dashes on tap starting at 12:30 P.M. including four divisions of the Maritime Breeders Stake for three-year-old pacers in the final stakes event to be held on P.E.I. in 2021.
The first $17,300 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders division lines up in race 5 for sophomore pacing fillies as Mystifying is the top choice with rail control for trainer-driver Darryl MacLean.
The second filly split goes behind the starting gate in race 9 with Emmy Lou Hayes selected on top after a 1:57.2 romp her last start for the combination of driver Jason Hughes and trainer Stephen Quinn.
Race 7 has a five-horse field of three-year-old pacing colts in a $17,100 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders division. Rotten Ronnie will be the one to beat from post 5 for driver Redmond Doucet and trainer Lennan MacIsaac.
The final Maritime Breeders division is the most anticipated match-up with Bettim Again (To be driven by Paul Langille) off the rail from the George Rennison barn after his MacKenzie stake victory last week. Woodmere Stealdeal (Marc Campbell) had to settle for second that day and will be saddled with post 5 on Saturday.
In the Post Time Picks, Peter MacPhee likes the odds of Woodmere Stealdeal overcoming his outside post position. “Woodmere Stealdeal has had another awesome year and has seven wins and earned over $69,000 in prize money. He also loves to race at this track and with Marc at the controls we think they land on the line first.”
Driving Dynamos Clash Monday In Summerside
SUMMERSIDE, PE – The 2021 racing season will come to a close Monday eveningĀ at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with all kinds
of excitement to finish off the meet. The 14-dash Monday card gets underway at 6:30 P.M., with three drivers in close pursuit of the Prince County Driving title.
Jason Hughes and Marc Campbell go into the card in a tie for top spot with 48 wins each this year while Corey MacPherson is in third placed but just one win back at 47 trips to the winner’s circle.
The hotly contested race of the night lies in race 8 in the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association Go The Distance Final for aged pacing horses with less than $3,000 earned in 2021.
The final attracts a field of nine pacers with no clear-cut favourite and a $4,000 purse on the line. Sharks Play (To be driven by MacPherson) has post 2 in the class after winning an elimination last week for trainer James Barlow, who co-owns the son of Shadow Play with Jennifer Barlow and Nakia Bridges-Barlow.
The other elimination winner is post 7 starter Zack The Men (Campbell) from the Michael MacDonald stable of Vernon Bridge who rides a two-race win streak into the class. Jeb is the undoubtable class of the field from post 6 for trainer-driver Hughes but was defeated as the post time favourite in his elimination.
The Backstretch Beat in Monday’s program tepidly places Zack The Men on top. “This race is promising to be the must watch dash of the night with it being a completely wide-open affair. This is the definition of a bettor’s race and the tote board should help make your decision. This guy won his last two races but even that doesn’t provide much clarity in with this gang. Your guess is as good as ours.”
The $4,000 P.E.I.H.R.I.A. Go The Distance Final for pacing mares lines up in race 3 with Back In The Game (Kenny Arsenault) the top choice from post 6. Filly Forty Seven is the morning line favourite in the race 13 preferred pace for $3,200 with Campbell in the seat of his trainee.
The daughter of Proven Lover was second in the preferred class last week in Summerside. Her top foes are slated as Woodmere Ideal Art (David Dowling) and Screen Test (MacPherson). Coasttocoastshark (Devon Wallace) is favoured in the race 4 Wendell Wallace Memorial pace.
