Cream Ridge, NJ – 10/29/21 – What a way to give back! When the Standardbred Retirement Foundation,(SRF) asked for kindness from harness racing owners, trainers, and drivers of many of the competitors in the Breeders Crown this weekend, the answers were yes.
A percent of winnings or a generous gift was pledged by Jeff Gural, Stacy Chiodo, Howard Taylor, Eric Cherry, and Tony Alagna. and SRF is anticipating others. When Dexter Dunn, the 2020 driver of the year in the US, and a nine-time winner of that title in his native land, New Zealand, stepped up, SRF was particularly excited. The founding of SRF is attributed to a New Zealand racehorse.
“Dexter gets it, he is fortunate to have such talent and the opportunity to drive it forward. He is one who knows how to give back!” shares SRF’s Executive Director, Judy Bokman.
These generous gifts give back to the horses that were meant to be competing for the crown in past years, but for many different reasons didn’t. SRF is there for them. No other organization carries the weight of dignity for this breed like SRF with more than 400 trotters and pacers under its care and expense. It is the largest program for trotters and pacers in the world, and it helps these horses whether they are adoptable prospects or not.
When the horses owned by these kind and generous people hit the gate and supporting drivers steer through the mile, they will have a tremendous amount of cheering to bring them to that finish line first! SRF is asking owners, trainers, and drivers in the Breeders Crown or any other class at any time to support its horses by way of a percent or otherwise designated for the trotters and pacers it has been helping since 1989. It is not too late to pledge for the Breeders Crown.
