Just Call Me Song hits the right notes

MILTON, ON – November 1, 2021 – Just Call Me Song hit the right note, while Angelonia capitalized to score upset victories in harness racing series final action on Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The first card of November at the Campbellville oval saw two-year-old fillies square off in a pair of Ontario sired Harvest Series finals.

The $46,600 final for two-year-old fillies saw a compact group of five clash, but there was nothing small about the efforts turned in.

Momentarily delivered speed from the outside to make the front and post an opening-quarter of :27.3. The 3/5 favourite Day To Party was right-lined from third entering the backstretch and made the front at the half, but didn’t exactly get an easy quarter, reaching the half in :55.3.

Day To Party got to slow things down in the third-quarter, pacing a :30 clip. Quebecoise angled out from third to come first-up, providing cover for 24-1 shot Just Call Me Song.

In the stretch, Just Call Me Song was ready to rock for driver Louis Philippe Roy, charging up on the outside and muscling ahead of Day To Party late to win 1:53.2 by a length. Momentarily finished third, while Ivory Hanover was fourth.

Trained by Eric Nadeau, Just Call Me Song had finished third and fourth in the preliminary legs of the Harvest Series prior to striking for the 24-1 series final upset. The victory boosts the season totals for the daughter of Sportswriter to two wins and $45,327 earned in 11 starts for owners 1876472 Ontario Inc., Roy, Michel Letarte and Jean Allaire.

A $2 win ticket on Just Call Me Song returned $51.10.

JUST CALL ME SONG REPLAY

The $45,100 Harvest final for two-year-old trotting fillies saw Angelonia come through at odds of 7-1 for driver Tyler Moore and trainer Dr. Ian Moore.

Post-ten starter Saundra blasted out to grab the top spot, posting a 27.3 opener. Angelonia also showed good early speed, landing a two-hole trip.

Saundra kept rolling along in the middle-half, posting fractions of :57.1 and 1:25.4, creating a few lengths of separation on Angelonia turning for home. The strong fractions proved too much for Saundra, as she faded in the lane. Angelonia took full advantage, trotting by and finding enough energy to win in 1:57.2.

Da Royal Miracle rallied from eighth at the head of the lane for second, while race-favourite Ladyflix came from sixth to finish third.

A daughter of Archangel, Angelonia entered Monday’s contest off a fourth placed third effort in last week’s second leg. The career-best effort of 1:57.2 improves Angelonia to two wins and $53,605 earned for owners Dr. Moore and Frank Cannon.

A $2 win ticket on Angelonia returned $17.

The Harvest Series was open to Ontario sired two-year-old fillies, who were non-winners of $30,000 as of September 30, 2021.

The series final action continues Thursday evening with a pair of finals for two-year-old colts and geldings. Post time is 7 p.m.
