Just A Bit Touchy (Father Patrick) has dominated the $100,000 (Group One) Aldebaran Park Breeders Crown final for 2yo trotting fillies tonight, coming clear by seven metres in the hands of harness racing driver Kate Gath.
The Emma Stewart trained trotter settled well back in the running but got a cart into the race at the 800m and easily picked up her rivals in the straight, eventually winning untouched with plenty of petrol left in the tank.
A relieved Kate Gath was full of praise for the filly after the race.
“She had a gear malfunction last start at Maryborough, but I was confident she would trot tonight,” she said.
“Normally she trots pretty good and is so well gaited and usually bombproof in her races, everything you need to have a good horse.”
“She is pretty laid back and just keeps getting better and better all the time, she really is a quality horse,” she said.
Aldebaran Vera ran a courageous second from a trailing position and early leader Tough Love battled on ok for third after leading.
The winner Just A Bit Touchy ran the 2240m mobile in a 1-59.4 mile rate.
