With the harness racing yearling sales just four weeks away in New Zealand, Harnesslink is going to profile some of the stallions represented throughout the New Zealand National Standardbred Yearling Sales of 2022.

First up is the impressive North American sire sensation, Always B Miki, who has 38 yearlings in this year’s round of New Zealand sales.

Always B Miki is the fastest harness racing horse of all time. Always B Miki’s outstanding 2016 season saw him being named US Horse of the Year. Trained by Jimmy Takter, Always B Miki’s racetrack deeds moved him to say: “I think this could be the greatest horse that ever lived.”

Always B Miki is the fastest horse of all time – 1:46. Always B Miki won four races in 1:47 or better – no other sire has done it more than once!

Always B Miki has stormed on to the breeding scene in spectacular fashion with his first two crops in North America, blowing away all previous sire records with two devastating sensational crops produced to date. He has produced the 2020 Dan Patch Two-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year, unbeaten Perfect Sting with 10 starts and 10 wins. Perfect Sting also repeated in 2021 as the Dan Patch Three-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year, the 2021 Dan Patch Two-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in Monte Miki and the Dan Patch Two-Year-old Pacing Filly of the Year in the sensational Niki Hill.

What more can you ask of a stallion from his first two crops in North America?

Always B Miki was the leading USA first season sire in 2020 and the leading USA 3YO sire in 2021.

In North America he is the sire of three Breeders Crown winners in 2021 – The three-year-old colt Perfect Sting (Shebestingin p3,1:47 – Bettor’s Delight), the two-year-old colt Monte Miki (Montenegro p5,1:50.2s – Camluck) and Niki Hill (Road Bet 1:52f – Bettor’s Delight).

He is also the sire of two millionaires from his debut crop – Perfect Sting 1:48.1 ($1,861,447) and Southwind Gendry 1:49.1 ($1,031,641).

While not quite so spectacular Down Under as of yet (Australia & New Zealand), but he has still sired of twelve stakes winners from his debut crop of Southern Hemisphere two year olds including the Group 1 winners Franco Indie ($127,187), The Miki Taker (A$89,252) and Tricky Miki (A$95,722).

His first New Zealand crop of 67 live foals (98 bred), Always B Miki finished third of the two-year-old money winning sires list for 2021. He produced 15 starters for 8 individual winners.

In his first Australian crop of 90 live foals from 126 bred, Always B Miki finished fourth on the two-year-old money winning sires list for 2021. He had 47 starters for 27 individual winners.

As can be seen below, Always B Miki’s two-year-old North American crop in 2021 produced the freakish filly Niki Hill 1:50.2 ($960,784) only beaten once (10 starts, 9 wins and a second) and named the Dan Patch Two-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year.

Here she is winning her final start for the year, the $359,450 Breeders Crown Final at The Meadowlands.

Always B Miki also produced the outstanding 2021 colt in Monte Miki who won both the $824,000 Metro Stakes and the $600,000 Breeders Crown.
