Southern harness racing trainer Nathan Williamson is back on track with his star pacer Pembrook Playboy and the duo are ready for battle in the Group three Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Cup at Ascot Park tomorrow.
Pembrook Playboy (Bettor’s Delight) suffered a leg injury just days out from the New Zealand Cup last year when he looked to be in top form and a great chance in the big race.
After a period of recovery and some recent trials Pembrook Playboy is looking to defend his title in the Invercargill Cup, a race he won last year beating Thefixer and Henry Hubert.
“He is ready to go! He has had two nice trials and I couldn’t fault either one of them really,” Williamson told Bruce Stewart from Southern Harness during the week.
“It is obviously a big test and he is coming up against some nice horses fresh up, but he is as well as I could have him going into the race,” he said.
Tomorrow’s Invercargill Cup field although small in numbers looks to be quite an even line up especially with the added interest of a couple of speedy Canterbury raiders in Alta Wiseguy and Cranbourne. The TAB have opened up the Invercargill Cup market with Alta Wiseguy favourite at $2.20 with Pembrook Playboy currently at $3.80
