Harness racing’s South Australia BOTRA 100 Year Cup was run and won by Just Chai who is raced, owned and bred by BOTRA Life member Jill Neilson and her mother Elma West.
Just Chai, along with his older half-brother, Just Cappy, races in Elmaās colors which were carried by some of the best horses to race in Australia in the late 60ās and 70ās.
Neilsonās grandparents were Ewart and Flo Helps, who, along with her mother Elma, raced Australia’s best known pacers in that era, the likes of Adios Court, Deep Court and Cassius Court, all progeny of the great stallion Deep Adios and each were selected as a yearling by Neilsonās grandfather at New Zealand yearling sales.
Elma West, now in her 80ās, was on hand to watch her new star Just Chai take out the Garrards Horse and Hound SA BOTRA Cup for three-year-olds.
Perfectly driven by Dani Hill who made it four winners for the night Just Chai came with a burst in the home straight to score from stablemate Deadline by 1.1 metres with South east trained Catch The Shark who sat outside the leader a further 1.2 metres away in third spot.
