Cream Ridge, NJ – 2/1/2022 – Seventeen year old love-bug, SS Hummer, passed his test yesterday to join the Pegasus Therapeutic Equine program, and the staff at the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) choked up when they gave him the nod! Hummer joins the list of many SRF harness racing horses adopted by therapeutic programs.
When SS Hummer came to SRF, he was neglected, emaciated and noticeably abused. He looked even more pathetic with a completely white eye, he had no vision in one. Hummer never made it to the races and likely lived a very hard life for nearly two decades. When the veterinarian first saw him he shook his head and said, “Cross your fingers.”
This guy never gave up, so neither did SRF. His demeanor is so kind and affectionate, and he owns the Standardbred title “Brainiac Breed! His new therapy home is excited to take him on and why not, he stood like a perfect gentleman, didn’t flinch with people crowding him, he walked gently, and when he had a chance, he hugged every one of them!
He had no help from his racing past, an owner or breeder to contribute to saving his life when he was in the slaughter pen. It was the kindness of donors who changed his brutal existence to this glorious new life. This is what SRF does with its supporters by their side.
