In a video for the stable’s Twitter account, @GathRacing, the master trainer gave trots fans a look at the final preparation before he attempts to land a fourth Great Southern Star.
“The track’s pretty heavy so they will work nice and solid but not over the top,” Gath said. “Most of them had a run last week, so they don’t need too much going into Friday and it’s only a six-day turnaround from when they raced on Saturday.”
While reigning two-time champion Tornado Valley wasn’t part of the workout, Gath revealed he had “worked early” and “works a little bit different – two heats over a mile – 10 minutes apart”.
“We tend to do that with him just before big races, it tends to sharpen him up a little bit. He’s got the good barrier draw, so hopefully as a 10-year-old he can still get the job done.”
