Race favorite Wheels On Fire had been dominating the Preferred ranks at Woodbine Mohawk Park this season, but he came up a bit short at the finish Saturday night, losing to 17-1 The Greek Freak in a nail bitter.
The $36,000 second race feature saw Uhtred and driver Jody Jamieson lead the field by the opening quarter mile in :29.1. Then it was Wheels On Fire and driver Doug McNair moving to the lead before the half mile marker in :59. All the while, The Greek Freak and driver Chris Christoforou sat comfortably in third place.
Then by the three-quarters in 1:27.2, Point North (Jonathan Drury) came first-over, locking The Greek Freak along the rail as they started down the stretch.
Christoforou waited with The Greek Freak and just as Point North began to tire, swung The Greek Freak three-wide and with racing room he took off, nipping Wheels On Fire at the wire by a neck in 1:54.1. Uhtred was third.
