Majestuoso can jump to the top of the Aurora Australis standings when he backs up from his Great Southern Star triumph and runs in Saturday night’s Aldebaran Park The Knight Pistol at Melton.
The Andy Gath-trained star, who claimed the biggest feature in Australian trotting with victory at Tabcorp Park last Friday night, can take top spot on the series leaderboard with success in the Group 1 this weekend.
Anton Golino’s top mare Im Ready Jet leads the series after wins in the Maori Mile and E B Cochran Trotters Cup, and sits six points clear of Majestuoso, who won the V L Dullard Trotters Cup before taking out the Great Southern Star Final.
The Knight Pistol is the second last leg of the Aurora Australis, which culminates with the TAB Australian Trotting Grand Prix on February 26.
A $50,000 bonus will be won by connections of the trotter which accumulates the most points (1st: 8, 2nd: 5, 3rd: 3, 4th: 2, 5th: 1) throughout the eight-race series.
The Knight Pistol has attracted five other horses who contested the Great Southern Star, including runner-up Wobelee, heat winner Temporale, Keayang Livana, Always Ready and Sundons Courage.
It is the major feature on Saturday night’s Melton card, which includes a high-end $100,000 claiming race to close the meeting at 10.17pm.
The $30,000 Renown Silverware Ararat Pacing Cup and $25,000 Mountain View Stud Ararat Trotters Cup take centre stage on Sunday.
