In the $21,000 11th race Sprocket, a $50,000 claimer, won in 1:48.2 for trainer Traci Berry and driver Pat Berry. Sprocket equaled the track record for aged pacing geldings at Dover Downs on Thursday.
Sprocket shot right to the lead and never looked back. They cut fractions of :26.3, :54.1 and 1:20.3 before pulling away in the stretch to win by three and one-half lengths.
The pocket-sitting Sicily (Tim Tetrick) was second with Dubious Claim (Jason Lynch) third.
A seven-year-old gelding by Sportswriter, Sprocket is owned by Edwin Gannon, Jr of Delaware and paid $4.40 to win. It was his second win in four starts this year and a lifetime mark.
SPROCKET REPLAY
Movin’ On Up rallied to win the $27,500 Blue Hen Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs on Thursday night.
Rose Run Uriah left alertly and grabbed the early lead. Penzance Hanover and Movinā On Up found seats in the 2nd and 3rd positions nearing the quarter pole.
Rose Run Uriah set fractions of :26.2, :54.2 (:28) and 1:22.2 (:28).
Penzance Hanover and Art Stafford, Jr sensed that Rose Run Uriah was tiring on the lead and pulled the pocket past the three-quarter pole. Movinā On Up and Tim Tetrick followed that move and sprinted past Penzance Hanover in deep stretch.
Movinā On Up won by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:49.1. The last quarter was paced in 26.4. He paid $18.40 for the win.
Movinā On Up (Bettorās Delight) is owned by David Hamm, of Delaware. and Rodney Long, of Maryland. Chuck Crissman Jr. trains.
Penzance Hanover was 2nd for trainer/ driver Art Stafford Jr and Tarkio, the 3/2 betting favorite, closed from 6th and finished 3rd. Wayne Givens trained and Allan Davis drove.
MOVIN’ ON UP REPLAY
George Napolitano Jr captured a driving triple on the racing card.
