Feelin Red Hot and driver Joe Bongiorno

For all the harness racing fans that wagered down Feelin Red Hot as the race favorite Tuesday at Yonkers Raceway there was never a worried moment after the starting gate pulled away. Driven by Joe Bongiorno, Feelin Red Hot wired the field in the 7th race $28,000 pacing feature for Fillies and Mares $50,000 claimers.

Racing over a sloppy, rain-soaked track with a two second allowance, Feelin Red Hot shot to the early lead with Trizzle Trazzle (George Brennan) grabbing the two-hole spot as they went by the first quarter in :28.2. There was little movement as Feelin Red Hot held the field at bay past the half mile in :57.4.

By the three-quarters in 1:25.2, Feelin Red Hot still had plenty in the tank and no challengers as she pulled away from the field by the top of the stretch and won by seven and one-quarter lengths in 1:54.

Closing from fifth place at the top of the stretch, Millbrook Bonnie N (Scott Zeron) was second with Morning Has Broken (Jordan Stratton) finished third.

FEELIN RED HOT REPLAY

A nine-year-old mare by Feelin Friskie, Feelin Red Hot was trained by Jenn Bongiorno for owners Robert Weinstein and JB Racing. She paid $2.40 to win and was claimed from the race for $60,000 by Eric Prevost and will be trained by Gareth Dowse.

Buoyed by a Pick 5 carryover of $12,840.97 that drew in $94,000 and change worth of new money, Yonkers Raceway hit the seven-figure mark in wagering handle on Tuesday night’s (February 22) 11-race card, with the final number totaling $1,030,607.92.

The Pick 5 returned $3,733.25 to those sharp enough to go five-for-five, and driver Austin Siegelman was the star of the sequence, winning with 19-1 shot Bet On Blake in race five, 3-1 offering Roll With Jr in the eighth, and 2-1 High St Corridor in the ninth. Both Roll With Jr and High St Corridor are trained by Nick Devita, while Dennis Laterza trains Bet On Blake.

In addition to the action in the Pick 5, the Pick 6, which started with a carryover of $3,618.73, brought in $9,272.60 from bettors, and one winning ticket collected $9,182.

Racing resumes at Yonkers on Wednesday night (February 23) with a ten-race program.
