With a late scratch and Eurobond breaking at the start of the race, it was just four horses that got away cleanly in $39,000 Open Trot at Yonkers Raceway Friday evening.
The 8th race harness racing feature saw Warrior One and driver George Brennan take control of the race from the start with Hat Trick Marleau (Tyler Buter) sitting the pocket-trip to the first quarter in :29.
Warrior One went unchallenged as he led the field to the half mile in :58.2. Then, as the field went into the backstretch, driver Daniel Dube took Stormy Kromer first-over from third place and began grinding it out towards the race leader.
Past the three-quarters in 1:27.1, Warrior One was still in command but Stormy Kromer and Dube were now in second place on the final turn by just a neck and showed no signs of letting up.
Second by just a nose at the top of the stretch, Stormy Kromer was battling head and head with Warrior One and as they came to the wire, Hat Trick Marleau joined the fray and all three horses ended up in the photo finish.
The teletimer said 1:55.3 and it was 9-1 Stormy Kromer winning by a nose over Warrior One with Hat Trick Marleau third by just a neck.
