Graeme Telfer looks a big player at today’s Timaru meeting when he steps out three horses on their home track.
Telfer starts two horses in the feature trot at Phar Lap Raceway, with his consistent mare Szybka Lane to go around in race 5.
As they are in any trot, early manners are crucial to the chances of the Telfer trained Hanover Da Moon and Prince Ranier’s in race 6.
Hanover The Moon was slow away in his last outing at Oamaru before working home nicely to run seventh.
Telfer rates the four-year-old slightly ahead of his stablemate Prince Ranier as far as winning prospects go.
“If they can get away is the main thing.”
“I thought if Hanover Da Moon began well he might be hard to beat.”
“The other horse has been going good races, too.”
Hanover Da Moon was rated the $3.30 early fixed odds favourite for race 6, ahead of Prince Ranier who opened at a $7.50 chance.
John Dunn takes the reins behind Hanover Da Moon with Telfer to drive Prince Ranier.
Szybka Lane also opened at a short quote to win race 5, when rated the $3.20 favourite.
The six-year-old comes into today’s event on the back of two solid placings at Oamaru and she looks well placed to notch a deserved win with Dunn in the sulky.
“She has been racing well, hopefully she can go another good race,” Telfer said.
John Dunn is a driver to follow at today’s Timaru meeting.
The reinsman combines with favourites De La Renta ($2.40), Maid Of Money ($2.70), and Will He Rock ($2.20) as well as Hey Tonight ($9).
