For the fourth straight start there is no stopping So Much More as the harness racing mare once again won the $32,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park Friday evening.
With James MacDonald in the sulky, So Much More started from the rail in the third race feature but it was 19-1 Trafalgar and driver Jody Jamieson the fastest off the gate as they led the field to the opening quarter mile in :27.3. Better Be Donna (Jonathan Drury) was able to grab the two-hole trip, but not for long. So Much More was in third place.
Once past the first quarter, Drury came right out first-up with Better Be Donna and following that early cover was the 1/5 race favorite, So Much More. Better Be Donna cleared to the lead and stung So Much More to the half mile marker in :56.
So Much More then cleared to the front and as they entered the final turn, Trafalgar and Jamieson came out from third place and started to gain some ground as they went by the three-quarters in 1:25.
So Much More and MacDonald held off Trafalgar to win by one and one-quarter lengths in 1:52.1. Lauras Love (Bob McClure) was third.
SO MUCH MORE REPLAY
A five-year-old mare by Big Jim, it was the fourth straight win for So Much More. She is trained by Don Beatson, who co-owns her with Ken Beatson, both of Cole England, ON. She paid $2.40 to win.
