Low blow; poor April Fool’s joke at Pompano

With the final day of pari-mutuel harness racing at Pompano Park set for Sunday, April 17, horsepeople at the iconic racetrack have plenty on their minds for their racing schedule for the future and sadness in their hearts at the loss of the one-time great facility.

Then someone decides to pull an April Fool’s Day joke Friday morning with a fake letter from the City of Pompano Beach handed out by track security at the stable gate. The letter calls for unrealistic parking changes for horse trailers and cars and other changes in the backstretch that normally would not happen.

The letter was on City of Pompano Beach stationary, but no contact names, address, or phone numbers that would normally be on the bottom of the letterhead.

The letter stated to contact the Florida Standardbred Breeders Office for further information and the FSBOA office knows nothing about this.

Joe Morris, the VP of Racing for Caesar’s was reached, and he knew nothing of the letter when contacted Friday morning.

It was apparently a cruel April’s Fool Day prank. An investigation by the FSBOA and track security is ongoing to see who did this prank and was able to get the guards at the stable gate to hand out the letter to arriving horsepeople.
