Even with having to start from the outside in post 8, Points North had little trouble getting to the lead and then maintaining it with ease in capturing the $28,000 featured harness racing pace Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
It was Stonebridge Rex (Doug McNair) first on the lead at the start of the seventh race feature and they parked out Points North and driver James MacDonald to a :26.2 opening quarter mile.
Once settled on the lead, Points North led to the half mile in :55 as Dontpokethedragon (Travis Cullen) came first-over with the 6/5 race favorite, Beyond Better (Bob McClure) getting second-over cover.
Even before the three-quarters in 1:22.3, Points North was motoring and, in the stretch, pulled away to a two and one-half length triumph in 1:49.3. Stonebridge Rex was second with Beyond Better third.
POINTS NORTH REPLAY
The time of the race was just one fifth of a second from Points Northās lifetime mark. It was his fourth win this year. The seven-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere is trained by Carmen Auciello for owners Aaron Waxman and Frank Cirillo. He paid $6.30 to win.
