Actually, getting three-wide live cover in the backstretch worked out for Sly Eleanor N in capturing the $28,000 feature harness racing pace Tuesday at Yonkers Raceway.
The fourth race feature for Fillies and Mares $50,000 Claiming Pace saw Millwood Bonnie N (Austin Siegelman) park out April Ave (George Brennan) and Feelin Red Hot (Jason Bartlett) three-wide to an opening quarter in a speedy :26.1.
Feeling Red Hot cleared to the lead with April Ave grabbing the pocket seat. They then raced single file to the half mile marker in :54.3.
As the field entered the backstretch Millwood Bonnie N came first-over, but that was not good enough for Royaltywestho (Joe Bongiorno) who went three-wide trying to loop at the leaders at the three-quarters in 1:23.1.
And following Royaltywestho three-wide with cover was Sly Eleanor N and driver Matt Kakaley. By the top of the stretch, Royaltywestho was a nose in front of Feelin Red Hot, but it was Sly Eleanor N with all the momentum, and she came on to win by one length in 1:52.3. Royaltywestho was second with April Ava third.
