Mach Steady opened the Monday (May 16) Fraser Downs harness racing card with a 10-1 win in the feature as the longest shot on the board.
He was quickest away under guidance from John Abbott but ceded control to favourite Kootenay Santanna (David Kelly) as they approached the quarter in :26.4. Mach Steady maintained the pocket through the half in :54.4 and to three-quarters in 1:23.1 as Armycaptin Hanover (Kelly Hoerdt) launched a first-over assault.
Abbott directed his mount to the passing lane as it opened, and the eight-year-old exploded in mid-stretch to pass the two duelers and cross the finish line first in 1:52. Armycaptin Hanover out-finished Kootenay Santanna for second.
The win price was $23.60.
