Stash The Cookies stashed the purse instead on Tuesday (May 17) as the harness racing mare crushed the boys in the Fillies Open Handicap Pace at a muddy Century Downs.
The six-year-old dropped back to third from post one and allowed Tiempo Hanover (Brandon Campbell) to dictate :28.1 and :57.2 terms in the first half. Phil Giesbrecht right-lined Stash The Cookies at that point and blew by the leader, taking the backstretch lead.
Stash The Cookies widened her lead to four by three-quarters in 1:25 and added to the margin as she cruised to the finish in 1:54.
She was five-and-a-quarter lengths the best over Crackle N Burn (Nathan Sobey). Munchie Chris (David Kelly) finished third. The win price was $5.70.
STASH THE COOKIES REPLAY
Christopher Lancaster of Airdrie trains the daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip and co-owns her with Derek Gilbert of Brandon. The mare is now four-for-10 this season after missing all of 2021. She has won 14 of her 53 career starts and holds a bankroll of $157,449.
Also on the card, trainer Stewart Waterman, who has recorded no starts since 2020, notched his first win since returning last month. The Airdrie resident trained his own Sixdaysontheroad mare Lovethatsixpack to a first race victory. She popped the pocket in the third quarter and squeezed by late for her first win of the season. Waterman took back training duties on two of his own horses in April after an absence from conditioning that started on Nov. 7, 2020.
Giesbrecht and Kelly recorded hat tricks on the day.
Century Downs will be back at 2:15 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 21.
