A harness racing horse called Smileslikejacinda is causing a bit of a stir in racing circles due to the obvious inference to a certain politician well known to New Zealanders.
Currently the naming policy within Harness Racing New Zealand’s regulations states a name will not be approved if it has political significance or if the name is of a well-known person, living or dead which may be objectionable to the persons concerned, to relatives or to others in general.
Gary Woodham the chief executive of Harness Racing New Zealand says the owners have been asked to change the name of their horse.
Smileslikejacinda (Franco Ledger) who is trained by part owner and breeder Andrew Faulks, trialled at Rangiora on Wednesday and ran home well for a tidy fourth.
