Live harness racing made its return for the 2022 season at Huron County’s Clinton Raceway on Sunday afternoon. The unofficial kick off to summer welcomed a large opening day crowd. An opening day record of $83,716 was wagered on the 10-race card.
Fundraising was back in full swing at Clinton, over $3,000 was raised for the Central Huron Secondary School. The winner of the 50-50 raffle took home over $1,000.
Maiden pacers lined up behind the gate for the Howard Kennedy Memorial Pace in race 1. 4-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding, Gus is Back, rode the pocket trip before making a late move to capture the $4,400 event. Drivers Travis Henry and Mark Goddard each had driving doubles on the card.
There were no winning tickets sold in the race 10 Super Hi-5, so a carryover of $860 will be up for grabs in the finale next Sunday. Live racing returns to Clinton Raceway next Sunday, May 29th for Seniors Day.
