It’s Academic (Uncle Peter) and harness racing driver Yannick Gingras overpowered a field of six harness racing rivals in easily capturing the $31,500 Open-Handicap Trot at The Meadowlands Saturday night (May 28).
Kenziesky Hanover (Dexter Dunn) started off the 8th race feature going right to the front and parking out a determined It’s Academic just past the opening quarter mile in :27.4.
Then Gingras and It’s Academic led the field past the half mile in :56.3 single file and not until the second turn did Next Level Stuff (Tim Tetrick) start up first-over in sixth place as It’s Academic past the three-quarters in 1:23.3 and began to head for home.
Try as she might, Next Level Stuff could not make up enough ground as It’s Academic went on to win with ease by two and one-half lengths in 1:51. It’s Academic was second with Kenziesky Hanover third.

A five-year-old stallion, It’s Academic posted his first win in just two starts this season. His first start last week he finished fifth again Ecurie D DK, race timed in an amazing 1:50. It’s Academic is trained by Ron Burke for owner Brad Grant of Milton, ON. Sent off as the overwhelming race favorite at 1/5, It’s Academic paid $2.60 to win.
Total handle for the evening was $3,245,014. It was the 12th time The Meadowlands has beaten the $3 million mark in wagering this season.
