Kahress ready to make an impact

Chasing an open class harness racing star has Kahress (Muscle Hill) ready to make an impact at Addington on Thursday night.

The Robbie Holmes trained five-year-old didn’t see much clear air when she followed The Dominator home at the same track last week.

Her third run this time in, Kahress pleased Holmes with her effort as she works back to full fitness during her new winter campaign.

“She went good the other night,” Holmes said.

“She got quite big in her time out, seasonal issues were why we tipped her out and to be honest she has still got those problems.”

“But hopefully over winter they disappear, that was to plan, to race her over the winter months.”

“They do seem to interfere with racing a fair bit.”

Kahress looks well placed from her 10m handicap in race 9.

The mare takes on classy opposition, but they will have to chase her from their back marks.

With a swift beginning, that may not be easy for the 20m and 30m back markers.

“I’d like to think she wouldn’t be too far away.”

“She is off the 10m and drawn a bit wide, she is a good beginner, she steps and knuckles down into it pretty quickly.”

Kahress has been rated at $6.50 and $2.30 fixed odds prices.

Holmes also combines with outside chances Inquisitive Man (Bacardi Lindy) in race 2 and Sunny Son (Majestic Son) in race 4.

Sonic Reign (Mach Three) looks another horse well placed from his handicap at Addington on Thursday night.

The Lyn Prendergast trained seven-year-old combines with driver Carter Dalgety when he steps out in the meeting’s junior driver’s event.

Sonic Reign comes into the race after a handy second behind Classic Linc at Rangiora.

“He had everything in his favour, he had a good draw, but he was just beaten by a better horse on the day,” Prendergast said.

Starting from the front line, the pacer could be hard to catch for his more fancied rivals who start from the 10m mark in the 2600m standing start.

Prendergast said she has been pleased with Sonic Reign since his last out and was hopeful he could go another good race.

Sonic Reign has been rated at $12 and $3.80 prices by bookmakers.

All Stars pacer First Class (Bettor’s Delight) (10m) headed the early market for race 3 at $2.50.
