SUMMERSIDE, PE – Bugsy Maguire (Bettor’s Delight) loves Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and will try to make his Prince County harness racing season perfect in the evening top class during another tailgate Friday (Jun. 17).
Friday evening has a 11-dash presentation planned for the western oval with a 6:30 P.M. opening post time. Bugsy Maguire is installed as the top choice in the race 10 top class with a $3,000 purse at stake. Norris Rogers gets the driving assignment behind Bugsy Maguire from post 3 for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Walter Simmons of Summerside. The gelding made his Summerside debut last week with a front-end score in 1:58.1 in line to rookie driver Damian MacLellan.
Maclellan will drive the number 2 entry My Land on Friday from the Jennifer Doyle stable as the five-year-old son of Badlands Hanover looks for his first victory of 2022. Kataparka (Well Said) controls the rail for driver Adam Merner after touring Red Shores Summerside in winning fashion his last start stopping the clock in 1:57.2. Soccer Hanover (Dragon Again) is the hottest horse in Eastern Canadian horse racing, fresh off a second-place finish after winning four straight races previous to that. Ken Murphy drives the Leith Waite trainee from post 6.
Perennial top-class horse Nogreatmischief (Bettor’s Delight) has post 4 for trainer-driver Walter Cheverie while post 5 belongs to Moonwriter (Sportswriter) with Jason Hughes getting the driving call Friday for trainer Colin Johnson.
The Backstretch Beat likes Bugsy Maguire on top of the triactor.
“Bugsy Maguire has the inside draw and if Rogers can get him rolling at the start and set up on the front end it could be all over.”
The back-up pace hits the track in race 9 for a $2,400 purse as His Boy Elroy will attempt a repeat of his crushing 1:56.2 performance last week. Cheverie drives the Phil Sizer trainee from post 2 for owners Doug Polley and Gordon McComb. His top foes include Dylan Sam from post 7 with Murphy driving and rail-sitter Theycallmedude and driver Merner.
