Ellagator (Western Vintage) became the fastest five-year-old-and-up pacing mare on a half-mile track in the history of harness racing when she won the $18,000 Fillies and Mares Open in 1:49.3 at MGM Northfield Park on Saturday (June 18).

The previous record was 1:50, held by Godiva Seelster (Greg Grismore) in 2018 at Northfield.
Northfield Park’s leading trainer Cory Kreiser conditions the pacer for owner Thunder Racing Stables of Brecksville, Ohio. Billy Davis Jr. was in the sulky for the winning drive.
Ellagator started from post six. She left from the gate and led at every call through blistering fractions of :25.4, :53.3, 1:20.3 and 1:49.3, easily beating her competition by 8 ½-lengths.
Ellagator now has four wins in 14 starts this year. Saturday’s victory represented her 12th career score and bolstered her lifetime bankroll to $299,612. She was heavily favored and returned $3.20 to win.
